Growing plants (and relationships?)
Yesterday I thinned the kale seedlings -- I gently pulled up the ones that weren't doing as well as the others, cut off the wilting leaves and the root ends, and used them as an omelet topping. (I haven't tasted kale before afaik so I dunno what I was expecting; they tasted like clean grass, which is a good thing I guess?) I'm still a bit sad about having to thin the seedlings, but ultimately there can be only one (shameless Highlander reference) since I only have space for one adult kale plant. For what it's worth, the remaining survivors seem to be doing much better with less competition.
Of the many dill seeds I planted, only three so far have sent up these tiny stick-like sprouts. (They remind me of Pikmin, though not as much as the kale did at the beginning.) One is much taller than the other two and sometimes bends a bit near the top when the wind is too strong. I'm a bit disappointed since I specifically chose a bigger pot for them, but maybe there will be more sprouts in a week or so? These three look kinda lonely on their own.
Meanwhile, I'm wrestling a little with my enemies-to-lovers subplot in the Castlevania OT3 fic; like my seedlings, the relationships between my leads are growing at different rates and in different ways, and I kinda want to nudge the slower one (ie, between Trevor and Alucard) even though I know it's more of a slow-burn thing. My version of Trevor is somewhat different from the anime one; he's somehow more openly hostile to Alucard and I'm still figuring out why I'm writing him this way. It's kinda weird since Alucard is generally the more tsundere one of the three of them, both in my writing and in the anime. Anyway, I've been chugging along and meeting my relatively low daily word count; if I'm lucky I can sort out my thought processes and get some good material out of Camp NaNo that I won't have to change too much in later drafts.

I hope you do have more dill come up, and those three are just early!
So frustrating when characters aren't exactly cooperating in something you're working on. I'd say that it would be worthwhile to dig into where the hostility is coming from from Trevor's perspective, but it sounds like you're already doing that! I hope that they start playing nice, haha (In terms of the writing, though I suppose eventually they'll get there in the plot!)

Yeah, these dill seedlings are a bit early; the guides I saw online said that it takes 10-14 days for dill to sprout, and they showed up around 6 days in. (The kale was even quicker; IIRC I saw the sprouts about a couple days after planting.) I'd read that you get a bushier plant (and a higher yield) when you plant multiple seeds, so I just went and planted them all. Come to think of it, this dill was also unplanned -- the seeds were a freebie from the shop I got potting mix from. Anyway I think I'll stop adding more plants for now and see how the current batch turns out.
Trevor is probably doing exactly what I thought he would be doing, since it *is* enemies-to-lovers; I just didn't think he'd be petulant about it. ^^;; (I forget sometimes that he's canonically around 20 years old in the anime; he looks older to me.) Digging into this initial hostility is helping me expose what I see as weaknesses in his character, which is timely since I'm getting into the middle chapters and all sorts of stuff is happening. I do want the eventual transition to lovers to feel earned, so I want to get this mostly right.

Some seedlings are just extremely excited to get started, haha. But ooh, free dill! I hope that more of the seedlings sprout soon.
It sounds like he's being a bit petulant! You're right - I feel like I think of him as being near 30, maybe because he seems to have such a "sick of this shit" vibe, haha. But yeah, if he's only around 20, it would also make sense for him to have more of that emotional volitility. Enemies to lovers is definitely best when it feels truly earned by all, so I know what you mean!

I made Trevor a little older -- my version is 25 or so to match his looks and general mien. After writing a few more scenes it's occurred to me that he feels left out (begrudgingly, since he hasn't accepted Alucard yet) and this is confusing and irritating him. I think they need more "team-building" scenes together, maybe of the monster-fighting/mystery-solving variety.

That makes sense for why he's behaving the way he is. And a "team-building" opportunity (maybe especially monster-fighting?) could help cement a sense of trust or at least respect.
