About That Gokushufudou Anime
Apr. 16th, 2021 05:10 amI was so hyped for the Gokushufudou anime when I first heard about it some months ago; I thought an anime wouldn't happen because there was already a live-action drama, then I read the news that Netflix was going to make an anime and they had cast one of my favorite voice actors, Tsuda Kenjirou. It was like a dream come true.
Then I watched the first episode as soon as it came out...and I realized that it was more of a motion comic with better production values than an actual anime. Even the OP was better animated than the actual episode.
I don't blame the animators or any of the people who worked on it; according to an Anime News Network article about the series, the decision to turn it into what it is now likely came down from someone higher up the hierarchy. The animators and the director did their best with what they had.
For what it's worth, TsudaKen delivered exactly what I expected; I'll admit to watching worse shows in the past just for his voice. At least this one only has five episodes at around 15 minutes each (without the OP and ED).
Speaking of TsudaKen... A part of me wishes this could have been the live-action version instead. TsudaKen used to be an actor before he shifted to voice acting, after all.
